An auspicious Chinese name is not just a Chinese name, it has to fulfill certain conditions. An auspicious Chinese name is one where the stroke numbers for Human Structure (人格), Earth Structure (地格), External Structure (外格) and Total Structure (总格) are all auspicious.
When a Chinese name has auspicious character strokes, it means the Chinese name is an auspicious Chinese name. It simply means the Chinese name has auspicious stroke numbers for Human Structure (人格), Earth Structure (地格), External Structure (外格) and Total Structure (总格).

Every character in a Chinese name has a five element (i.e. Fire, Earth, Metal, Water and Wood) representation. Very often a BaZi may have missing or weak favourable elements. One way to 'rectify' this deficiency is to have characters with the favourable element representations in a Chinese name.
The key criteria for a Chinese name to be an auspicious Chinese name is that it needs to have auspicious stroke numbers for Human Structure (人格), Earth Structure (地格), External Structure (外格) and Total Structure (总格). A Chinese name that sounds good but does not fulfil this criteria is not an auspicious Chinese name.
Having a fixed character in a Chinese name will affect whether a Chinese name can be auspicious. For a Chinese name to be auspicious, each character (i.e. middle and last character) needs to have certain stroke number. By having a character fixed in a Chinese name, you are 'restricting' the stroke number for the remaining character. The result is that the stroke numbers for Human Structure (人格), Earth Structure (地格), External Structure (外格) and Total Structure (总格) may not be all auspicious. This means the Chinese name may not be auspicious when you fixed a character.
