Wedding Taboos / Superstitions


Below is a list of common wedding taboos / superstitions. You are at your discretion to observe them.


Taboo / Superstition 1

The groom and bride should not attend a funeral or wake, attend a wedding or visit a woman who is going to give birth within three months (or 100 days) of their marriage (ROM and wedding).


Taboo / Superstition 2

If the groom or bride is in mourning (either parent or a close family member passes away), the marriage (ROM and wedding) should be conducted within 100 days of the death or 3 years after the death.


Taboo / Superstition 3

Once the bridal bed has been installed, no one should be allowed to sleep or sit on it.


Taboo / Superstition 4

A person whose animal sign shows a clash with the groom's or bride's animal sign should stay away in the room when the groom and bride enter the house. The person can come out of the room to meet the groom and bride after they have entered the house.


Taboo / Superstition 5

All red packets given at the wedding should contain amounts in even number.


Taboo / Superstition 6

The bride and groom should not meet each other the day before the wedding.


Taboo / Superstition 7

Marriage should not take place during Qing Ming (²M©ú) period.


Taboo / Superstition 8

Marriage should not take place during ghost festival month.
